Itinerary

Addis Ababa - Mekele

Visit Trinity Cathedral, resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie. Tour the Ethnographic Museum, a great introduction to Ethiopian culture and history. Make a short drive to Entoto Hills for a view of the city and visit Maryam Church. En-route, stop at Sheromeda traditional cloth market. Visit the Mercato or the Sholla Market, two of Addis Ababa’s main markets. In the late afternoon, fly to Mekele on Ethiopian Airlines.

Mekele - Ahmedela

Meet support vehicles and drive to Ahmedela via Berhaile. Make camp, and see camel caravans passing against a backdrop of dramatic sunsets.

Lake Asale and Dalol Excursion

Visit Lake Asale and watch the salt workers as they cut bricks of salt from the lake bed. The bricks are then sold on the market and loaded on camel caravans for transport to the highlands. Proceed to Dalol and view the dramatic and colorful geological formations caused by the hot springs rich in sulfur, potash, and salt.

Erta Alle - Lake Afdera Hot Springs - Addis Ababa

Drive to Dodom. Trek 4 kilometers to the Erta Alle volcano lake, 613 meters above sea level. Return to vehicles and drive to Lake Afdera, famous for its hot springs. Return to Mekele and take a shower. Transfer to airport for early evening flight to Addis Ababa. An Awaze Tours representative will meet you and provide assistance regarding accommodation or transportation arrangements if needed.
